Beach fishing Halibut

Last summer I dug a few holes in our beach and put in pipe for rod holders.  The maximum water depth in front of the lodge is 500′ and it drops down quickly.  We had around a dozen halibut in mid July, many in the 20-30 pound range, the largest being a 50 pounder.  There were a couple of times the reels were spooled and the gear broken off leading me to believe we had hooked a much larger fish!  I plan to fine tune my beach fishing system this summer.

Here’s a 100# halibut that my 4 year old son William and I caught off the dock this spring.  It stripped line several times and I was worried it might spool me since I was unable to chase it being on the dock.  William thought it was pretty cool..
